Instructions for Making a Scout Patch Blanket
Scouting is a fun activity for many girls and boys. They enjoy the challenge of earning as many badges and patches as they possibly can. While most of these are worn on the uniform in a vest or sash, some scouts will find that they have too many patches. To display these extra patches, a scout patch blanket can be made and hung on a wall. It can also be taken on camping trips to wrap around the scout on cold nights.
Things You'll Need
- Old blanket preferably fire resistant material
- Scout patches
- Safety pins
- Needle
- Scissors
- Several colors of thread to match the outside seam of each patch or the blanket
Instructions

1
Wash and dry the blanket to ensure that it is clean before starting.
-
2
Lay the blanket out on a large flat surface. Place the patches in an orderly fashion on top of the blanket. This will allow you to move the patches until you achieve the spacing and layout you want. Possibilities include making a box with older patches at the top and newer ones at the bottom, or making a large circle, adding newer patches to fill in the center outline made with the oldest patches.

3
Use one or two safety pins to pin each patch onto the blanket to preserve the predetermined layout.
-
4
Choose thread color to match the outer seam of each of the patches or a color to match the blanket. Use the needle and thread to sew each patch onto the blanket with a whip stitch all the way around the patch.
-
5
Repeat with the remaining patches until they have all been sewn on.
