How to Make iPhone Ringtones With Cool Edit
If you want to make your own iPhone ringtones from songs that you have on your computer, you can do so with the Cool Edit program. Cool Edit supports 25 different file output types. To make ringtones for the iPhone, you have to be sure to use the AAC file format as your output type. Using Cool Edit to make your own iPhone ringtones is fairly simple, and the process is quick.

Download and install Cool Edit from the Softpedia website (see Resources). There is a 21-day free trial of the program. After that, you will have to pay to keep the software.

Launch Cool Edit on your computer. Click "File" and "Open" to select the music file that you want to use to create a ringtone. Wait for the file to open in Cool Edit.

Use the yellow arrow-like sliders to select a section of the song that you want to use as the ringtone. You will only need around 30 seconds of the song for the ringtone. Position the sliders at the start and end sections that you want for your ringtone. You can check the length of your selection under "Length" on the "Set" row on the lower-right corner of the screen.

Right-click over the section of the song that you have selected and click "Copy" from the pop-up menu. Click "File" and "New" to open a new file. Make sure you select "Mono" and "8 bit" and click "OK." Press "Ctrl+V" to insert the copied segment of the song into the new file. This will result in just the ringtone section of the song being in this new file.

Click "File" and "Save As," and the Save As dialog box will appear. Select AAC as your file type, as that is the only ringtone format supported by the iPhone. Click "Save" when you are done, and the new AAC file will save to your computer. Once you do this, you will have created a new iPhone ringtone.
