How to Make a Child's Zebra Costume
Children's costumes don't have to be expensive or time-consuming. Making children's costumes can be a fun and simple process that doesn't require a sewing machine. Plus, you save money by using basic items that you might already have on hand. Invite your child to join in the creative process and make the costume together. He can add his own unique twists to personalize his look.

Instructions

1
Lay out the sweat suit on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles. Put pieces of cardboard inside the suit to make it easier to paint.
-
2
Outline zebra stripes with a pencil on the sweatshirt and pants. Every zebra is unique, so draw stripes in different sizes and shapes.
-
-
3
Paint the stripes with black fabric paint. Let dry completely.
-
4
Cut the black yarn to your desired length and thickness to create a tail. Tie one end of the tail in a knot and glue it onto the seat of the pants.
-
5
Cut ears out of black felt or construction paper and glue them to a black headband. (If you are using a hooded sweatshirt, glue the ears to the hood.) You can add a fringe of mane by gluing short pieces of black yarn to the headband or hood.
-
6
Wear black gloves or mittens and black socks and shoes to represent hooves.

Tips & Warnings
For safety, use face paint instead of wearing a zebra mask.
The paint and glue will not wash out, so use clothing that will not need to be worn for another purpose. Use non-toxic paint.
