Step 1
Register for the online application form on the CIES website. The application form is divided into five sections: Award Information, Applicant Profile, Project Information, References and Applicant Data.

Step 2
Provide award information. This includes the Country Program you are applying for, the particular award number for the grant you are seeking and category information for the grant.

Step 3
Provide applicant profile information. This includes much of the same information in your curriculum vitae, as well as a statement highlighting your professional achievements. Note any previous Fulbright grants you have received and provide a summary of your proposed project when prompted.

Step 4
Provide project proposal information. This includes your major academic discipline, such as History or Geology, your specializations, and the proposed length of the grant for which you are applying.

Step 5
Provide reference information. Depending on the category of grant for which you are applying, reference information might be in the form of letters of reference, teaching reports, referee contact information or some combination thereof.

Step 6
Provide required supplementary documents. The required documents will vary depending on the grant. They may include a language proficiency report, detailed project statements, course outlines or other types of information.

Step 7
Provide applicant data. This includes the number of the Congressional district in which you live and your electronic signature.
