How to Become an Agent for Kentucky Insurance

So you want to work for Kentucky Insurance? Becoming a contracted agent for Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance is not as difficult as you may have thought.

• Driver's license
• Proof of residency
• Birth certificate
• Social Security card

Instructions

1. To become an agent for Kentucky Insurance, you will first need to obtain your insurance license. Contact a state approved pre-licensing provider to schedule the required 24 courses.

2. Once you have completed the pre-licensing requirements, you will need to contact the Kentucky Department of Insurance to schedule the state insurance exam (see Resources).

3. Once you have passed the state insurance exam, you must mail your license application to the state licensing division with a nonrefundable application fee. When your application is approved, you will receive your license in the mail--the process takes four to six weeks.

4. Visit the Kentucky Insurance career website (see References) to request a meeting with an agent recruiter in your area. Make sure to provide your insurance license number.

5. Meet with the recruiter to discuss contract options and pay plan selection; be sure to bring your pre-licensing certificate of completion and your state insurance license.

Tips & Warnings

• After taking your pre-licensing course, spend two to three weeks preparing for the state examination before you schedule it.

• Applicants with felony convictions may have difficulty obtaining a Kentucky Insurance license.
