Step 1
Well, it's that time again... Back to School that is. For millions of kids and parents though out the U.S., this can be a very stressful time creating a lot of anxiety. Not only does it cost a lot of money for the parents to buy their children clothes and items they need for school, they also have the worry of their children staying our of harms way.
-
Step 2
Many kids today suffer harassment from bullies. This is a sad reality. Many kids bully others to make themselves feel better or because they suffer from depression of their own. The environment we live in is very stressful not only on adults but also on children, and this can affect each one of us differently.
-
Step 3
Before you child even goes to school (no matter what grade it might be), you need to sit down and have a one on one talk with him/her. For some parents, this might be difficult. You might feel as if your child is not listening. One thing is for sure: you child will listen and pay attention to at least a little of what you are saying. even if they only pick up on a little of what you are saying, it is helpful!
-
Step 4
When you do sit down with them, you need to let them know the dangers of bullies and why bullies do what they do. Let your child know that there any many children that get bullied in school and explain to them what bullying is. they may not even know they are being bullied.
-
Step 5
Forms of bullying:
Peer pressure, such as trying to make them do anything, ANYTHING they don't want to do or, they feel is wrong to do. (Most children, if raised by responsible parents know right and wrong.)
These might include: Drug Use, vandalism, harassing the teacher, foul language, sex, etc. -
Step 6
Other forms of bullying include:
Children stepping on back of your child's shoes, talking bad about your child to other students, spreading false rumors, fights for no reason, etc. -
Step 7
Encourage your child to let you or the counselor at the school know if he/she is being bullied. Tell him/her to make sure if it is going on to not let it continue to go on. This can ware your child down very fast by trying to put up with a bully week after week, and you may not even be aware of it!
-
Step 8
Talk to your child daily after school and ask him/her how their day was. Stay involved with your children. this is the most important thing you can do! A child who's parents don't give him the time of day will really show up in his grades and personal life. Know who your child's friends are and make sure they are all doing what is right and that you approve of them. Sometimes your child may have a friend that is a bully and may soon turn your child into the bully you want to keep your child away from!
-
Step 9
If you are religious and read the bible, make sure you read the bible every day with your children to keep their hearts and mind pure. this will help them to ward off bad influences at school and will improve their confidence!
-
Step 10

on 8/31/2009 I really like this eHow article on bullying. I agree that it's a good idea to sit with your child and explain bullying behavior and why they do it. Reading the Bible is also a good suggestion to keep your child grounded. 5 & a recommend.
