How to apply a Relaxer to African American Hair...

Difficulty: Moderate

Instructions

Relaxer/Dye Application Brush
Box relaxer of your choice
components of relaxer(may vary depending on type of relaxer): Gloves, stir stick, relaxer, activator, shampoo, conditioner, moisterizing lotion.
Towel
Comb

Step 1

Pour activator into relaxer and mix well for about 2 minutes
Step 2

Use comb to divide hair into four sections: One part down the middle of the head (from the forehead to the back of the head) and the other from one side to the next (left to right).
Step 3

***Before application be sure there is no scalp irritation: Take application brush and dip into relaxer, apply relaxer from the roots of the hair and about an inch up from the roots. ***Apply relaxer to entire head causes damage and breakage. There may be some relaxer left over...
Step 4

Application should not exceed 10 minutes because breakage may occur depending on hair texture... Wash relaxer out thoroughly...***left over relaxer in hair can cause scalp irritation..
Step 5

Shampoo Hair: some shampoos are color coded and lather will change a certain color if there are traces of relaxer still in the hair...Wash hair until shampoo lather is WHITE!
Step 6

Apply conditioner while hair is still wet and comb through hair: you can leave some conditioners in up to an hour for maximum moisture. A shower cap also helps during this moisturizing process.
Step 7

Wash conditioner out of hair
Step 8

Blow dry hair (preferably with a dryer with a comb to ensure straightness!)
Step 9

Apply moisturizing lotion and style hair any way you prefer!!!
