Butcher Paper

A butcher paper barn is a great craft project for kids! Butcher paper is a thick, sturdy paper that usually comes in a roll. It is used by butchers to wrap meat. Find it for sale at grocery and craft stores. The following are simple instructions for creating a butcher paper barn!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Roll of butcher paper
  • Small cardboard box
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Magic markersS
  1. Step 1

Get a medium or small cardboard box and tape it so it is closed and smooth on all sides. Leave one of the widest sides (bottom side) open. The box should be no wider than the roll of butcher paper.

  2. Step 2

Measure the longest side of the box horizontally. Cut two pieces of butcher paper. Draw an outline of the front of a barn on the paper. Make the drawing the width of the box, and not much higher.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the barn drawing on two sheets of paper. Let your children decorate the sides with markers. Cut out flaps for the doors and windows.

  4. Step 4

If you are ambitious, also cut paper to cover the two smaller sides of the box, and have your children decorate with markers.

  5. Step 5

Paste the butcher paper to two (or four) sides of the box. Superglue works well.

  6. Step 6

You could cut out windows and doors in the cardboard box to match the windows and doors cut out in the butcher paper.

  7. Step 7

Round up some plastic animals for your kids to use in and around the barn.
