Tea bags are a great way to treat sunburn!
Tea bags are a great way to treat sunburn!

Following these step-by-step instructions will soothe mild to moderate sunburn.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tea bags
  • Cold water in small bowl
  • Bath towel or paper towels
  1. Step 1

    1) You will need to decide the number of tea bags you'll need depending on how large the surface area of skin is that contains sunburn. One bag can cover approximately 3 inches by 3 inches of skin. For instance, if the sunburn covers your face I would suggest 3 bags: one for each check (including nose and chin) and one for the forehead. You may use any type of tea bags... it should not matter.

  2. Step 2

    2) You'll want to get a small bowl of cold water.

  3. Step 3

    3) Place the tea bags in the water for about 30 seconds so they become wet.

  4. Step 4

    4) Place the tea bags on the sunburned areas of skin.

  5. Step 5

    5) Gently run the bags over the skin or allow the bags to sit on top of the sunburned skin.

  6. Step 6

    6) When the bags no longer feel cool, repeat the process of placing the tea bags into the bowl of cold water and reapply to the sunburned skin.

  7. Step 7

    7) Continue to reapply the cold tea bags for about five minutes.

  8. Step 8

    8) Wait about an hour and repeat the entire process using new tea bags. I typically will do this process in the evening before going bed. You should notice a big difference in the sunburn when you wake up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear an old t-shirt or old pajamas (the tea may drip from bas as you apply to skin)
  • Keep a towel or paper towels close by
  • Depending on the type of tea bag (i.e. raspberry)... sometimes they may stain clothing.
