Saving money on groceries just takes a little preparation and a few extra minutes each week. With these helpful hints, you'll be on your way to being a savvy grocery store shopper in no time!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • few minutes a week
  • coupons
  • grocery list
  • savings card
  1. Step 1

Plan a weekly trip to the grocery store. Going grocery shopping only once a week can save you time and money spent on gas.

  2. Step 2

Write a list of the groceries that you need before heading to the store - and stick to this list! Check your pantry and refrigerator to be sure that you don't already have any of the items that you think you need. Having a grocery list helps to avoid frivolous purchases, and serves as a reminder of what you do need so you don't forget anything.

  3. Step 3

Clip coupons. It is simple and the few extra minutes it takes to snip can really add up to some major savings. A few great places to find coupons include the Sunday paper and on-line web pages such as coupons.com, couponsuzy.com, and couponmom.com. Go directly to manufacturer web sites for click and print coupons. Some manufacturers like Proctor & Gamble (startsampling.com) offer coupons they will mail directly to your house. To increase your coupon savings even more, ask your local grocery store when they double coupons and shop on those days.

  4. Step 4

Don't be brand loyal. Be willing to try another brand or store brand if it is cheaper. Pay attention to prices - sometimes even with a coupon a brand may be more expensive than another.

  5. Step 5

Stock up on sale items that you or your family use a lot. It will be cheaper in the long run to buy a few of these products now, and either store or freeze them.

  6. Step 6

Give the dollar store a try. Most of these stores accept coupons and offer everyday savings over major retail grocery stores. Go once a month and stock up on groceries like cereal, soda, snacks, laundry detergent, cleaning products, etc.

  7. Step 7

Sign up for your local grocery store' s "savings card". The savings card gives you cheaper prices on certain groceries than if you were to purchase them without the card. Some grocery stores now sell gas and their savings card acts as a reward card in that the more money you spend on groceries, the more money you save at the gas pump. Check with the grocery store to see what other rewards their savings card offers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Only clip coupons you will use.
  • A small coupon organizer is a great way to organize your coupons alphabetically or by category.
  • Check local circulars for sales on products or brands that you use often.

on 9/3/2009 Check out this site I found that gives you free visa cards for grocery shopping as you normally do. I have been doing it for 4 months now and have received $100 in visa cards that I can use any where. www.getfreevisacards.com
