How to use the Recycle Bin to Improve Computer Performance

Regular ‘housekeeping’ will help your computer to operate efficiently. First is the Recycle Bin on your desktop. The Recycle Bin keeps files that have been deleted, whether accidentally or intentionally. The Recycle Bin only stores files deleted from hard drives. Users can review the contents of the Recycle Bin before deleting the items permanently A full Recycle Bin can slow down deleting files. It is resolved by emptying the Recycle Bin.

The Recycle bin should be emptied monthly using the following steps

  1. Step 1
    RECYCLE BIN ICON
    RECYCLE BIN ICON

    Locate the "Recycle" icon on your desktop. Double click to open the icon. Select "Empty Recycle Bin" on the drop down menu.

  2. Step 2
    DELETE ALL DECISION
    DELETE ALL DECISION

    A popup asking "Are you sure you want to delete these nn items?" Select "Yes" to delete all items in the Recycle Bin. "No" allows you to selectively delete items and return the others to their original location.

  3. Step 3

    The Recycle Bin should be emptied monthly along with other computer housekeeping operations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Items emptied from the bin cannot be recovered by the normal user.
