Getting rid of fruit flies can be easy, and without nasty sticky strips or harsh chemicals.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

You might reach into your fruit bowl to grab a ripe banana and discover little black swarming bugs. These bugs are probably fruit flies. Fruit flies love ripened fruit and vegetables, and are most commonly discovered during the late summer or early fall. Not only are fruit flies annoying, they can contaminate your food with germs. Getting rid of fruit flies, and keeping rid of them, is important.

  2. Step 2

Take a small dish or bowl and add 2 cups of warm water.

  3. Step 3

Next, add 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar. Mix solution together until the sugar is dissolved.

  4. Step 4

Place a few drops of liquid dish soap into the solution.

  5. Step 5

Set your dish or bowl next to your infested fruit fly area. You will be amazed at how the fruit flies are attracted to the sweet solution! Once they try to drink the solution, they become slick from the dish soap and can't fly out.

  6. Step 6
    No more fruit flies!

    No more fruit flies!

Discard of the used fruit fly mix, along with the deceased fruit flies. Make a new batch of the solution as needed. The mixture can also be used to prevent fruit flies - just leave a small bowl of it out next to your fruit and/or vegetables and the little black bugs will be attracted to the solution and not to your fresh food.
