How to Make a Victorian-Style Paper Christmas Tree Garland

Christmas trees were first introduced as a Christmas tradition during the Victorian era, when trees were decorated with varied ornamentation. Most of the decoration was made from plant material, hand-made items or candles. First fashioned as the paper Christmas Tree Garland, they are known as paper chains today.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Paper
• Scissors
• Glue or tape

1. Cut strips of paper, all of the same size. The paper could be colored construction paper, newspaper, magazine pages, Christmas wrapping paper, ribbon or decorative paper.

2. Match one end of a paper strip to the other end, creating a loop. Use glue or tape to attach the two ends.

3. Pull a second paper strip through the loop of the first one. Match the ends of the second paper strip and glue together, forming a second loop--two links of a chain.

4. Continue with this process until the chain is long enough to wrap around the tree several times, from top to bottom.
