Things You'll Need:
- Sheet solder
- Tin snips
- Small container
- Flux and paintbrush
- Soldering block
- Small butane torch
- Silver-plated jump rings
- Round nose pliers
-
Step 1
Cut the sheet solder into squares smaller than 1 mm with the tin snips. Place the small cut pieces into the small container to keep them safe.
-
Step 2
Pry open a jump ring with the round nose pliers and apply a tiny bit of flux on each end with the paintbrush.
-
Step 3
Close the ends of the jump ring carefully with the pliers. The ends should be aligned perfectly.
-
Step 4
Place the jump ring on the soldering block. Make sure the joint to be soldered has contact with the soldering block.
-
Step 5
Dip the tip of the paintbrush into the container and pick up one small solder chip on the paintbrush. Carefully place the solder chip directly onto the jump ring joint.
-
Step 6
Turn the butane torch on and direct heat onto the jump ring and the soldering block. Heat the jump ring to get the solder to flow into the joint. As the jump ring heats, the solder will begin to melt and then it will flow. When the solder flows, turn the butane torch off immediately.
-
Step 7
Allow the soldered jump ring to cool completely.
