How to Create a Region Free DVD
Most DVD authoring tools will allow you to create region free DVDs. You will be able to create interactive menus to match the theme of your DVD. While most DVD burning software is similar in functionality, for the sake of this how-to, we will demonstrate how to create a region free DVD using either Ashampoo or Nero (both of which are free).
Instructions
-
Creating Region Free DVD Using Ashampoo
-
1
Download, install and launch Ashampoo Burning Studio (see References below). You can choose to read the opening tutorial.
-
2
Select "Burn Movies."
-
-
3
Select the "Add/Browse" button. Import the video of your choosing. Only MPG files are compatible.
-
4
Insert a blank DVD-R.
-
5
Select 6x speed. Click "OK." Click "Burn." Be patient, as this may take a while.
Using Nero
-
6
Download, install and launch Nero 9 StartSmart (see References below). Select "Make Your Own DVD-video option." NeroVision Express will open.
-
7
Select "Add video files" to browse any video files you want on the DVD. Make note of the space available on the DVD by using the indicator at the bottom of the program.
-
8
Add chapters by clicking "Create chapters." Manually set the times for chapters or select "Autodetect." You can skip this section altogether by clicking "Next."
-
9
Change the encoding quality. This will allow you to fit more video on the disc at the cost of slightly lower quality. Click the "More" icon and select "Video options." Click the DVD-video tab. Set the aspect ration to "Automatic." Change the quality setting to "High quality." Click "OK."
-
10
Press the "Next" button. You will be given the option of creating a DVD menu or choosing from a list of preselected menus. If you're content with the default menu, click "Next" and then "Burn" to begin finalizing the disc.
