How to Fix Deep Scratches on PS2 Games

When you abuse a PS2 game disc, it will get scratched and the PS2 disc drive cannot read scratched games well.

Things You'll Need

  • Two baby washcloths
  • Liquid soap
  • Toothpaste
  • Moisten a baby washcloth or another type of soft material. Add a pea-size amount of liquid soap, such as dish or hand soap. Rub the cloth together to form suds.

  • Wipe the disc. Start from the inside and wash toward the outside of the disc. Complete this for the entire PS2 disc. Do not clean in a circle around the disc because that will cause dirt to become stuck in the groves as well as add to the scratches.

  • Use the second baby washcloth to dry the disk completely. Again, dry from the inside of the disc to the outside. Remember not to wipe the disc around in a circle.

  • Take the PS2 game to a video game store. Usually, these types of stores are located throughout the community, such as Gamestop or GameCrazy. They will run the disc through a machine to buff the game. This usually costs $1 or $2 but sometimes the store will not charge anything.

  • Add water to the disc to become moist. Squirt a dime-size amount of toothpaste on the baby washcloth.

  • Clean the disc with the toothpaste rag. Wipe from the inside to the out, all the way around the PS2 game.

  • Use cold water to rinse the toothpaste off the disc. Hold the PS2 game under a small water stream. Use the other cloth to rinse away the toothpaste.

  • Place the disc in a safe and cool location. Let the disc air dry for about two hours.
