Protect Your Garden Organically
Protect Your Garden Organically

Do you have a problem with pests in your garden? There is no need to spray expensive and harmful chemicals in your vegetable garden to control pests and infestations.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A garden
  • A desire to keep your garden organic
  1. Step 1

Plant Nasturtium near your cucumbers and beans. Nasturtium repel Mexican bean beetles and also cucumber beetles.

  2. Step 2

Also plant mint near your beans. The smell of the mint leaf will keep white fly off of beans.

  3. Step 3

Marigolds should also be planted in your vegetable garden. Their smell will keep away rabbits, deer, and squirrels, as well as harmful types of insects. In addition, it helps attract beneficial insects to your garden as well.

  4. Step 4

Some beneficial species include: Lacewing and their larvae, which will take out aphids. Ladybugs will consume large amounts of aphids. Centipedes will eat slug's eggs. Toads and frogs will eat slugs, aphids, and other insects.

  5. Step 5

Avoid both onion and carrot fly by planting your onions and carrots together. They both protect each other.

  6. Step 6

Birds such as robins and thrushes will help clear your garden of insects, slugs, and caterpillars. Encourage their presence by providing food in the fall/winter and water in the spring/summer.

  7. Step 7

It's worth it to keep your garden organic and avoid using toxic chemicals, especially when you are enjoying fresh, organic homegrown vegetables.
