Find Great Facial Cleansers and Moisturizers For All Skin Types

Keeping your facial skin clean and fresh takes a little work, but is worth the effort once you know what products are best for your skin type. There are three different kinds of skin types: oily, dry, and combination (oily & dry) skin. Once you know your facial skin type, finding the right cleansers and moisturizers is easy. Here are some tips for keeping facial skin clean and clear using the right products meant to enhance your skins elasticity, tone, and appearance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Oily skin is fairly easy to recognize. Those with oily skin are often prone to breakouts and tend to have large pores creating more blackheads in what's known as the 'T' zone (forehead, nose, and chin). To test and see if you have oily skin, take a Kleenex and blot it over any of these areas. If the Kleenex shows any signs of moisture or oil, chances are you have oily skin. Other signs of oily skin are shiny skin (even after putting on makeup), thick skin, and dull skin. If your facial skin shows signs of a greasy shine, you probably have oily skin. The one great thing about oily skin is that it shows signs of aging the slowest compared to other forms of skin types.

  2. Step 2

To remedy oily skin, try facial cleansers that are oil-free and have no additives such as Neutrogena or Aveno. Shine-free facial cleansers such as Clean & Clear Oil-Free Foaming Facial Cleanser are also great for taming oily skin. Be sure to only wash your face a few times a day (with hot water to open up pores and clean them out), although you may be tempted to wash more. Over washing oily skin can actually harm the natural oils in your skin. Follow your cleansing routine with an astringent that will help to combat oily skin. Then, use a mild oil-free moisturizer such as Clean & Clear Morning Glow Moisturizer or Biore Minimizing Lightweight Moisturizer SPF 15.

  3. Step 3

Dry skin can be easily detected by the flakes of skin and dry patches on your face. Dry skin also tends to have some redness from irritation. Overly dry skin is difficult to deal with because sometimes no matter how much moisturizer you use, the dry patches seem to always reappear. You can also detect dry skin because of how it worsens in the winter, yet looks it's best in the summer time. Skin that's dry will feel tight, uncomfortable, and even a little sore when stretched out or moved is a sure sign of a dry skin type..

  4. Step 4

In order to cleanse dry skin properly, opt for skin cleansers that offer added moisturizers and are made for sensitive skin such as Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash or Olay Definity Illuminating Cream Cleanser. Dry skin thirsts for a cleanser that is rich in moisturizers and gentle to the face. It's not a good idea to use an astringent on dry skin since an astringent will over dry sensitive skin. However, you should follow your cleansing routine with a great enriched facial moisturizer such as Eucerin with SPF 30 or Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15.

  5. Step 5

Combination skin is one of the hardest skin types to recognize. People with combination skin tend to have oily and dry skin both and are unsure of how to treat it properly. Those with combination skin show signs of an oily 'T' zone (forehead, nose, and chin) with dry patches on cheeks, sides of nose and around the lips. However, combination skin tones can also have dry 'T' zones. If you have combination skin, it's certain that your skin's tone is never the same from day to day depending on the weather, the exercise you do, and your skin treatment habits.

  6. Step 6

Cleansing combination skin can be easy with the right products. Facial cleansers such as Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser and Clean & Clear Soft In-shower Facial cleanser are great for combination skin that needs daily cleansing with products able to even out skin tone. Combination skin facial cleansers that are aimed at fixing problem skin do so by moisturizing the dry parts of combination skin and removing dirt and oils from oily areas of combination skin. For moisturizing combination skin, stick to facial moisturizers such as Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combination Skin or Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer.
