Use Facebook to Improve a Business

Many people want to get in on all that Facebook has to offer-especially when it comes to their businesses. Here are some tips-no matter what size your business-for using this powerful social media tool to improve your image, interact with consumers and rev up sales.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Fill out your profile. This is an imperative part of creating a professional persona online. You'll want to establish yourself with a "business account." When doing so, pay attention to the Facebook rules for business accounts (see Resources below). Use a professional photo and make sure to customize your account so that business contacts cannot see just any photo you may put up. You may also want to set up a Vanity URL, which lets you have an easy-to-remember URL featuring your name or the name of your business (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Promote yourself. You can easily promote your Facebook page on email signatures, business cards or your website. I stay away from promoting my Facebook URL because I would rather people visit my business website (see Resources below) to find out about my business directly. But promoting your Facebook site off blogs and such is a great way to get the word out too, especially if you do not have a website (Which is only temporary, right? All businesses need websites!).

  3. Step 3

Establish connections. In addition to uploading contacts from your email client, you can also do a search for people in your industry. If you're seeking out customers, don't just search for competitors; search for people, businesses or groups that will use your products or services. You can also use the "Suggest Friends" function to help grow your network. You can start a group or a fan page as well. Groups are better if you have a small business.

  4. Step 4

Post valuable content. Here's where you can post anything related to your business. This includes articles, blog posts, survey results and more. It's OK to post links to your own content too. Just keep people engaged and post regularly. Facebook can also be combined with other social media tools such as Twitter.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you post a lot to both Facebook and Twitter it can get annoying to someone who follows you on both. Watch how much you post, so there's not a lot of duplicate content.
