Lubricants are a great addition to partner sex or masturbation. It is a matter of picking out the right lubrication for the right situation. There are basically four types of lubricants. Petroleum-based, Water-based, Silicone-based and Oil based.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your favorite lubrication.
  1. Step 1

First you must decided how you are going to use the lubrication. Are you going to use it with a partner, with a toy, in water, with condoms,

  2. Step 2

Lets take petroleum-based, this is usually vaseline or baby oil products. This type of lubricant should never never be used with condoms. It will destroy the condom! It will stain your sheets, (assuming you are in bed with sheets). Petroleum-based lubes also aren't so great in a women vagina, it will irritate some women. The best use is for male masturbation or if you like to have anal sex.

  3. Step 3

Water-based lubricants are safe for condoms and toys. They do not stain, they are great for vaginal sex, and the come in flavors. Sometimes the water based lubes need to be "generated" again, but a little water or spit( I hope that wasn't to graphic) brings it back to life.

  4. Step 4

Silicone-based lubes can be used in water (hot tub, shower, you get the idea). They also last longer than water based. Silicone wont hurt latex condoms. But do not use silicone-based lubes with silicone toys. they don't get along with each other.

  5. Step 5

Oil-based lubes stain fabrics and are hard to wash off. They are safe in the vagina. They do destroy latex. They are great with anal, vaginal, and masturbation.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is your decision what kind to use. There are enough out there that you will have a great time trying them all.
  • Remember some people are allergic to different ingredients. Read the labels. This article is from my experience with lubes. It may be different for you.
