Step 1
Select a paint color. The great thing about a garden decorating theme is the variety of color choices. Flower gardens can contain a vast array of colors which gives you a large range from which to choose. Pastels are always a good choice for decorating a little girl’s room and certainly work well for a garden theme. Think about your daughter’s favorite flower or if you want to add a stencil or mural to the room and choose colors that will complement your design.
-
Step 2
Dress the bed and windows in a floral pattern. Purchase a floral quilt and drapes or add your own flower appliqués to a plain blanket and sheer curtain panels. Butterflies, dragonflies and bees are other options for decorating your garden decor bedding and window treatments.
-
Step 3
Try wall stickers if you are not comfortable with stencil or freehand paint design on the walls. They come in several flower and butterfly designs and can be found in craft stores and dollar stores. Apply them to the wall, dressers, headboard or any surface to add a touch of whimsy. The fun thing about these decorations is that they can be removed and reapplied to another spot in the room easily, so you can change their location often.
-
Step 4
Shop the home and garden centers for items such as paper lanterns, ladybug string lights, wind chimes, watering cans, baskets and flower pots to add to your decor. Watering cans, baskets and flower pots can be decorative as well as functional if large enough to be used as storage bins.
-
Step 5
Check the craft stores for silk flower garlands, floral picture frames and other garden themed accessories. Ready to finish step stools, toy chests, rocking chairs and benches can be painted and easily adorned with stenciled garden elements or more of the wall stickers from Step 3.
-
Step 6
Decorate with wrought iron, picket fencing and lattice. Think picket fencing in place of wainscoting and lattice trellis as crown molding. These can be purchased in home improvement stores and at yard sales. Another idea is to use the fencing to make a decorative headboard.
-
Step 7
Personalize it. Add elements containing the child’s name to the bedroom for a sweet, personal touch.
-
Step 8
Some other elements you may want to consider are garden fairies, butterfly or flower pillows, rugs, pictures, shelves and mirrors. There are many options available and once your room starts to come together, you will know what will work best for your garden themed bedroom.
