Here's some tips on how to speed up your BlackBerry Storm from Verizon Wireless.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Storm
  1. Step 1

First thing I'd like to explain is that the BlackBerry's run much like a computer, in that you can have multiple programs running in the background. It's very surprising to see how many programs are running on this little machine at once when someone is saying that it's lagging on them. To check this, click the blackberry button or menu button twice so that it goes to the main selection and then the menu pops up. Scroll down the list to the very bottom and you will see "Switch Application". When you click this, you'll be able to see all the programs running on the machine at once. There should only be 5 running when you are not doing anything on it, and that is the browser, the blackberry messanger, messages, the phone, and home screen. Anything other than those 5 are using the blackberry's processor and most likely are not needed unless you are using them.

  2. Step 2

To close out a program, simply select the program, hit the blackberry button. Scroll all the way down and select close. Or you can hit the back button to close out an application as well. One thing to keep in mind that most people who are knew to BlackBerry's don't know is that the "END" key, does not close anything out, it just minimizes it, just like on a computer.

  3. Step 3

That one is huge. The next thing I'd check out, is go into options and choose security. In there you'll see memory cleaning. I advise to turn this on as it clears out the ram when it's idle.

  4. Step 4

Next thing I'd take a look at is in the options menu, select screen/keyboard. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see scroll and hover. I usually set these to 450 and 900. Seems to scroll a lot faster and smoother after that.

  5. Step 5

Next thing, if your into installing themes, I've seen a lot of themes that are programmed very well and really bog down the machine. Personally, I prefer to just use the standard theme, but I do understand, some of them are pretty cool. Just keep in mind, if you notice a dramatic decrease in how it runs after installing a theme, I'd just get rid of it and try another one.

  6. Step 6

Also third party applications can sometime bog it down. Most of the big names ones are good, but there are a few I've noticed that seem to use way too much of the systems resource so I uninstall them.

  7. Step 7

Next thing you want to be sure of is that you have the latest update. The first version that came out was not programmed all that great, but the newest update runs like a charm. To update, simply plug in your phone and use the software that came with it and do the update, of course you'll have to Download it first. If you don't have a computer, I'd just take it to the store, I'm pretty sure they do updates there.

  8. Step 8

If all that fails, I'd just back up all your contacts etc that you need on to your computer, and then go to options/security/general settings. Then click the blackberry button or the menu button, and you'll see something that says "wipe handheld". Click that and type in blackberry and press enter. This will wipe the entire machine to factory default. Then simply restore your back up on the machine. This can be a pain because you have to reset up your email, but, though rarely, sometimes it just needs a fresh start.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember wiping the handheld will delete everything, so back up your contacts and any blackberry messenger pin numbers you may need.
