Step 1
Get to the beach.
Clearwater Beach is located on a peninsula, separated from the mainland by the intercoastal waterway. This means that there are a limited number of ways to get there.
From northern Pinellas County, head into downtown Clearwater on Gulf to Bay Blvd., which turns into Court Street and then becomes the Memorial Causeway. The causeway is the main link to Clearwater Beach and can often be a traffic mess.
From the south, follow Gulf Blvd. north, which starts near the Don Cesar Hotel in St. Petersburg Beach. -
Step 2
Park your car
If you've successfully navigated your way to the beach, you'll need a place to park your car. There are approximately 14 city parking lots, offering a little more than 1000 parking spaces, available at various costs. Check the link included in the Resources section for a map of these lots. There are also a limited number of street parking spaces and private lots, but the availability of these spaces is undependable. Don't be fooled by the number of spaces. The lots fill up quickly, especially on holiday weekends -
Step 3
Clearwater Beach, FloridaHit the beach.
Depending on where you park, there is usually a public beach access nearby. The Pier 60 area is the hub of activity for the beach and is where you'll find the biggest crowds. For a bit more space or privacy, move north or south, away from Pier 60 to find smaller, less crowded areas. North of the pier you'll find rental umbrellas and chairs if you want to get out of the sun. -
Step 4
Have some fun.
In addition to playing in the surf, there are numerous other activities to enjoy. There are several volleyball nets set up on the beach and there is always a pickup game. You can rent canoes, para sail, take a pirate cruise, rent a jet ski or take a boat ride out to see the dolphins. Check the link to the Chamber of Commerce below for some great ideas.
