How to Make a Simple Memory Quilt or Throw
A memory quilt is a collage of items that trigger happy memories and attachments. Such a quilt may include a range of items, from photographs to fabrics, that represent a special memory. Whether you want to celebrate a birthday, remember someone special, acknowledge a personal achievement or welcome a new baby, a memory quilt is an ideal beginner project that you can make for yourself or as a gift.

1
Choose your objects. Collect any photographs you want to use. To preserve your originals, scan the images and save them onto the computer, then print onto high-quality photo paper. Gather any garments you want to use, such as baby clothes or toys. Wash them first to ensure that they are clean and ready to use. You can also use handwritten items, like signatures and poems, on your quilt. For the best quality, scan or photograph them, then print them.

2
Use the fabric glue to attach each photograph to a square. Arrange garments or pieces of fabric onto squares and then sew into place with a simple stitch, using needle and thread. Continue until all your items are attached. Leave an equal amount of empty squares as you have squares with items.

3
Lay the blanket flat and arrange the fabric squares on top, using any decorative pattern you want. One idea is to alternate between empty and filled squares. For added decoration, cut empty squares diagonally to create two or four triangles and arrange. Pin each square into place onto the blanket.

Unpin the top corner of the first square you will sew. Use a straight stitch -- weave the needle in and out of the fabric -- until you reach the next pin. Make the gap between stitches narrow for extra support. Continue until all four sides are sewn. Repeat for all squares.

5
Fold your quilt into thirds to minimize creasing and wrap it in a clean sheet to protect it from dust.
