Step 1
As you learn how to clean scuba gear, begin by cleaning scuba gear such as mask and fins in the bathtub, using the shower nozzle to rinse away any salt or sand. Make sure that you use clean, fresh water to clean the equipment thoroughly, leaving to stand for up to ten minutes. Make sure that all deposits are removed, and then leave the equipment out to air dry.
-
Step 2
Rinse and thoroughly clean your wetsuit, booties, gloves and weights. Again, make sure that all salt and sand particles are rinsed away, as they can damage the delicate materials. When thoroughly clean, use the clothes hangers to hang your wetsuit up outside, allowing to drip dry. Do the same with the booties.

Step 3
If you are worried about any potentially unpleasant smells or odours coming from any of your scuba gear, wetsuit conditioner can be purchased from most good diving stores.
-
Step 4
The Buoyancy Control Device (BCD) must be cleaned both inside and outside, as salt water could have made its way in. The outside is cleaned by submerging the BCD in clean water a few times, removing any unwanted particles. This can also be done more thoroughly by dunking it a number of times. To clean the inside more thoroughly, the BCD inflator must be deflated. Fill with clean water until approximately one third full. Make sure that the water reaches all areas by gently shaking. Empty out the water by turning the BCD upside down, and repeat the process if necessary. Partially inflate the BDC, so that it does not stick, and leave to dry.

Step 5
Prevent water from entering the first stage of the regulator by cleaning and replacing the dust cap. Then, submerge the regulator in clean water for a short period of time, removing all the salt by gently turning in the bathtub. Using a clean towel, dry your regulator gently and store it in a dark, cool place, free from dust and dirt. You now know how to clean scuba gear!
