  1. Step 1

Its all in the ingredients! Knowing what ingredients to look for is essential in choosing skin care products. From $10 to $200 you can find products that fit your budget and contain the leading antioxidants, peptides, and AHA's. Look for the following and you will be well on your way to younger, more radiant looking skin.

  2. Step 2

Sunscreen - VITAL - sun exposure is the LEADING cause of aging and damage to the skin - It is recommended to use an SPF of 15 or higher. Choose a foundation, tinted moisturizer, or daily moisturizer with an SPF. And don't forget to protect your lips with SPF!

  3. Step 3

Peptides - building blocks to protein - has varying impact on cells depending on type of peptide; Benefits may include: Increased cell hydration resulting in "plumping" of the skin; Decrease in fine lines and wrinkles. Especially found in night creams and moisturizers - revitalizing the skin while you sleep.

  4. Step 4

Retinol - also known as Vitamin A - antioxidant - stimulates production of collagen - Results include: Decrease in skin discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles; Improvement in skin texture, skin tone and color.

  5. Step 5

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) - glycolic acid is the most common AHA - exfoliant - Benefits include: Reduction of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; Evens out skin tone; Helpful in managing acne, blackheads, whiteheads and congested pores.

  6. Step 6

Vitamin C - powerful antioxidant - protects the skin from environmental exposures (sun, smoke or pollution) - especially beneficial for hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone. Topical vitamin C can be very unstable so it is important to select a product that has a advanced delivery system to maximize results and a storage system that protects the vitamin C from breaking down.

on 9/7/2009 Wow!! There sure is a lot to know when choosing skin care products. I actually use Mary Kay products and have seen a dramatic difference in my skin. MK is better than the really expensive department store products I have tried in the past. Thanks for the informative post.
