How to become a US citizen for a Russian woman marrying an American man

Whether you have a Russian fiancee, bride or just got married, you will find this article of help. It does not go into details of immigration and naturalization process, but instead provides a short overview of the process of becoming an American citizen for a Russian lady who got married to a man, who himself is a citizen of US. The same process can be applied to other nationalities as well.

Instructions

1. For a Russian woman, fiancee or bride to become a US citizen through marriage, she needs to get married first. As soon as she gets her marriage certificate, she is eligible to file for the adjustment of status with USCIS.

2. If her basis for status adjustment is marriage to a US citizen, upon successful document review and possible in-person interview, she will be issued a conditional green card, permanent residenceship card for the period of 2 years.

3. 90 days before the expiration of a 2-year green card she will need to file another set of papers to USCIS and go through biometrics to receive a non-conditional green card.

4. Provided she is still married 3 years since the issue date of her fist conditional green card she will be eligible to apply for US Citizenship and go through Naturalization process, which includes filing all necessary forms, biometrics, an interview/test with immigration official and taking the oath.
