Step 1
Create a menu plan. This can be the most difficult part in meal planning because it can seem very overwhelming at first. Take a breath and start very small. Make a quick and simple list of what you want to eat for every day next week. Jot down a few basic meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
-
Step 2
Check out the supermarket ads. This can help with meal planning block. Check out what's on sale next week and flesh out seven dinner ideas that you can make completely from the weekly specials. Add in some simple breakfast, lunch and in-between snack items and you're done!
-
Step 3
Check your fridge and pantry for things you already have and cross them off your meal planning list. This saves time and money, and you won't have to kick yourself later for buying things you don't need.
-
Step 4
Grab your list and hit the stores! Enjoy this part, because this is the payoff for all your hard planning. Try to stick to your list as best as you can, but sometimes you will find even better things at the store and come up with new ideas on the spot. It's okay to change a few things, but make sure to stick with the majority of the stuff on your list.

on 9/7/2009 Really great tips. I hate finding that I don't have anything to make for dinner or have to run to the store for something.
