A lazy man fire is a very good survival situation fire, because it allows you to burn wood, such as large branches, without wasting the time or energy it takes to chop the wood. In a survival situation, it is key to stay warm while conserving your energy. Follow these steps to make your own lazy man fire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wood
  • Stones
  1. Step 1

Start by building half a circle out of grapefruit sized stones. This will serve as the boundary to half of your fire pit for the lazy man fire. Make sure you place them in a large arc, so that they make half of what would be about a three or four foot circle. Use a shovel or your hands to dig out a few inches of dirt in the center of the fire pit for the ash to collect.

  2. Step 2

Next, take a series of long tree branches and lay the ends in the center of the fire pit. Make sure the other ends of the branches fan out like a star. These will be the fuel for the lazy man fire.

  3. Step 3

Light your fire as normal in the center of the pit. As the branches burn, you'll have to keep pushing them in closer to the center of the lazy man fire. This saves you from having to chop the wood, and lets the fire do most the work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Gather long branches. The longer the branches, the longer the fire will last.
  • You will have to watch this fire more carefully. Since there is not a boundary on one side, it is more dangerous since the fire can spread easier.
