Wash and moisturize hair. Create a deep part in damp hair using a fine-tooth or rattail comb. Section off a 1-inch piece of hair for medium curls. Larger sections of hair will create looser curls. Smaller sections of hair will create tighter curls. Optionally, spray this section with hair spray.

Place one fingertip next to the base of the hair section. Wind the hair section around this finger in a clockwise circle. Don't twist the hair while winding it around your finger. Tuck the end of the hair section inside the circle. Slide a flat hairpin over the hair circle to hold it in place. Secure with another pin, forming an "X" over the hair circle. Repeat with your entire head of hair. Spray with hair spray and sleep on the curls.
