Choose the right Mini Australian Shepherd
Choose the right Mini Australian Shepherd

Your new dog is a special new addition to your family. Choosing the right dog is the best choice you can make. Do your homework and make meeting and choosing your Mini Australian Shepherd puppy the first best day to your new additions life. Australian Shepherds are both highly intelligent and loyal. Follow these easy steps to finding your families perfect match.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • Pen and paper
  1. Step 1

The most important part of choosing any puppy is to understand the specific breed. Each breed has unique qualities. Research Mini Australian Shepherds online at the Kennel Club web site. Make sure that this is the right breed of dog for both you and your family.

  2. Step 2

Understand the breed standards of the Mini Australian Shepherd. Height , weight, ears, tail, colors and markings. Health issues. This is important when buying any pure bred dog. You are purchasing quality and do not want to run into any health issues in the future. Take notes and keep them with you.

  3. Step 3

Researching a breeder to purchase your dog from is very important. A breeder with a good reputation will make your experience great. On the American Kennel Club site you can look for a list of recommended breeders in your area. Purchasing a dog from another state is never a good idea. You want to be able to meet your new puppy face to face. Contact a few breeders that have puppies available. You will know just by speaking to them for a few minutes on the phone if they really know their stuff. Once you have chosen a breeder to work with set up a time to meet their puppies.

  4. Step 4

When meeting the puppies for the first time keep in mind that they may be shy and not as active as you hope they will be. You are a stranger to them and it will take time for them to warm up to you. So armed with your knowledge of the breed carefully note the characteristics of the puppy. Do they fit the breed standards? Also pay close attention to where they are kept and their living conditions. A good breeder takes exceptional care. A clean safe environment is s great example of the quality of the dogs they breed. When interacting with the puppies pay close attention to any feelings you may have. If you are drawn to a particular puppy go with it. Ask the breeder a lot of questions. Your gut will tell you if you are on the right track. Good luck.. Use the knowledge you have and make the right decision for you and your family. Good luck!!

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your local vet if they know of or recommend any breeders.
  • Do your research to make a good choice.
  • Never buy from someone that can not supply you with the puppies medical history ( shot record) or the history of the puppies parents
