Fold and Fasten a Cloth Diaper (Jelly Roll)
Fold and Fasten a Cloth Diaper (Jelly Roll)

Learn how to fold and fasten a prefold cloth diaper to contain messes and keep your diaper covers cleaner for longer. This fold is trim and works great once perfected.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby
  • Prefold cloth diaper
  • Snappi fastener or diaper pins
  • Diaper cover (PUL, wool, fleece)
  1. Step 1

Lay the diaper flat on your changing surface with stitched edges facing head to toe, not side to side. Fold down the stitched edge near your baby's waist about 1 inch, and lay your baby on top. This "lip" of diaper works great at containing those "up the back" messes.

  2. Step 2

Roll each side of the diaper in toward the center, getting smaller toward the end. These rolls work great as barriers against "out the legs" messes.

  3. Step 3

Take the rolled up end up between your baby's legs, making sure the front and back hit the same rise of your baby's waist.

  4. Step 4

Spread out each side of the diaper so that they overlap with the back sides. Fasten with a Snappi or pins.

  5. Step 5

    Cover, and enjoy your baby!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be afraid to make the diaper snug (but not tight enough to leave red marks). With a proper snug fit the diaper keeps messes inside.
  • Make sure that all of the diaper is inside the cover before dressing your baby. If any parts are exposed, wetness can wick onto clothes.
  • If you have a boy, keep him covered during the change with a spare diaper or wipe to prevent even further messes!
