Have you ever began a recipe, and in the middle of it find that you are missing an ingredient? Are you expecting guest and found out that you don't have certain ingredient to finish your dish? Well there are ways you can still continue the recipe by substituting it with something else. Below are some ways to ingredient substitute to help keep you on track when preparing meals.

  1. Step 1

    Here are some popular items used in recipes that can be substituted with another item entirely. You do not have to get disappointed due to lack of ingredients, just simply modify by means of substitution.

  2. Step 2

    Allspice can be substituted with cinnamon and ground cloves.

    Apple pie spice can be substituted with cinnamon and ground nutmeg

    Buttermilk can be substituted with plain low-fat yogurt

  3. Step 3

    Heavy cream can be substituted with milk and melted butter

    Garlic can be substituted with garlic powder

  4. Step 4

    Fresh herbs can be substituted with dried leaves

    Sour cream can be substituted with plain yogurt.
