Things You'll Need:
- plenty of fluids
- kombucha
- tea
- fresh fruit
- bananas
- vitamin supplements
-
Step 1
Eat before drinking.
I know, I know, you're probably reading this because you're already hungover; but drinking on a full stomach has been proven to reduce the duration and intensity of hangovers. So next time be sure to fill up before you hit the bars. -
Step 2
Drink as much water as possible before you pass out.
The funny thing about this step in that when you need it the most is when you'll be least likely to remember (or stay conscious long enough) to do it. You can train yourself though. I have many a fuzzy memory of stumbling over to the sink and drinking glass after glass of water. Every time I wake up in the morning in the morning feeling surprisingly well, considering. It really works. -
Step 3
In the morning, start your day with water, fresh juices, ginseng/green tea and/or kombucha.
If you're already hungover, you don't want advice about what to do next time. One major step you can take right now is to rehydrate. Conventional wisdom on the subject dictates that we experience hangovers because of dehydration and the loss of certain nutrients. We'll talk more about nutrients later, but for now try to rehydrate with fluids that take care of both. Citrus juices provide a rich source of much needed vitamin C; raw veggie juices provide an assortment of nutrients and beets in particular are great for a hangover and have been scientifically proven to increase stamina; Kombucha is a rich source of B-vitamins; Green tea provides antioxidants, caffeine (for headache) as well as minerals; and ginseng detoxifies, helps with liver function and soothes that aching noggin. For best results imbibe one of each. -
Step 4
Enjoy a light breakfast of citrus fruits, bananas, grains, yogurt and honey.
Each of these provide something that has been taken from your body by all the drinking. -
Step 5
Take a supplement to replenish those lost nutrients.
When we drink excessively, we become dehydrated, we lose B vitamins and vitamin C. Consider finding these supplements and washing them down with lots of fluid. -
Step 6
Take a long shower.
There's just something about a long, hot shower that has an ivigorating effect. At the very end, let the water go gold to wake you up and get the blood pumping. -
Step 7
Get active, but be sure to over-hydrate.
Some advise to lay around but I have found that my hangovers can last all day and well into the next if I give in to them. You are far more likely to process and get rid of those toxins if you get active. Exercise or just go about your day, but be sure to keep hydrated!
