This article will teach a parent to potty train a little boy. By repeating these steps your baby can be potty trained quickly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • toilet
  • training underwear for toddlers
  • plastic pants that cover the underwear
  • step stool
  1. Step 1

To start potty training your little boy, you need to buy some potty training underwear. They are a little thicker than regular undies, and they are for toddlers. I buy them from Wal-Mart. I bought about nine pairs because in the beginning you never know how many you will use in a day. I also bought some plastic undies to cover the training underwear in case I go somewhere. Also, it isn't necessary, but useful to get a step stool.

  2. Step 2

Every fifteen or twenty minutes, I would ask my son if he needed to go to the bathroom. I picked to ask if he needed to go tee tee.

  3. Step 3

I would take and place him on the potty facing backwards so that he felt more comfortable and less like he was going to fall in. I used the regular toilet because if I had bought a little potty for him, he would get used to that and I would have to carry it everywhere. By using the regular toilet, I could take him to a resteraunt and he would be used to the toilets there.

  4. Step 4

Having the underwear instead of pull-ups helped because he could tell what it felt like to pee in his pants. If he was using pull-ups, it still sort of felt like a diaper. Pooping in the potty was a little different. I would show him how to grunt. I taught him even the little things.

  5. Step 5

When he was just starting to use bathroom, it would take him a little bit, so I would read or sing him the ABC's or count. I used it as a teaching time too. That would pass time for him and you!

  6. Step 6

For potty training at night, I would just stop giving him liquids a little before bedtime. That way he could use the bathroom before he went to bed, and hopefully not need to while in bed. Over time, he wakes up with lighter wet diapers. Soon, they will be completely dry in the mornings.

  7. Step 7

After about a week, my son knew when he needed to go to the bathroom. He would let me know. Don't get me wrong there are still little accidents, but he has come so far, and I couldn't be more proud of him. It does take time for a child to realize what is going on and not be scared, but with persistence he will do it!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't give up. It does take a little bit for your son to get used to this new situation.
  • Be persistent!!!!!!!!!
