Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Set aside time to read to your child daily. Make it part of your routine.
-
Step 2
Before reading, look at the cover together. By looking at the pictures and title ask questions about the book's content. For example, "By looking at this picture, what do you think this book will be about?".
-
Step 3
Discuss with your child who the author and/or illustrator is. Make sure they understand what their job(s) actually consists of.
-
Step 4
If reading a picture book, before you begin just look strictly at the pictures. Study them, and ask them more questions about what may be happening. Later, you can ask if their predictions are true.
-
Step 5
While you are reading to your child, think out loud and ask them questions about the content. Do this even when the child can't answer. In this case, you would ask the question and also give the answer.
-
Step 6
When finished, review the book with your child. Make sure to ask why they liked or disliked the book.

on 8/24/2009 I love to play with kids. But what's difficult is when I start to read a story to them. Whether there are not enough good children books material around me, they are not interested, or it is me who is incapable in delivering an interested story telling. Anyway, nice tips, thanks!
