Step 1
Assess yourself very carefully. What are your values? Do you feel comfortable having one-night stands? Are they really part of who you are and part of your belief system?
-
Step 2
Make a mental or written list of any consequences that could follow having a one-night stand. For example, you could end up with an STD, an unplanned pregnancy or get involved with a psycho that could do you harm.
-
Step 3
Ask yourself the reasons you would consider a one-night stand in the first place. What would you benefit from the experience? Is the experience worth taking a chance?
-
Step 4
Using the assessments in steps 1, 2 and 3 and assuming you’ve decided one-night stands aren’t for you, make a promise to yourself not to get involved in a one-night stand. Use methods that follow to help prevent this.
-
Step 5
Take along a friend when going out on the town who shares your values in not having a one-night stand. A buddy system will help keep you in check.
-
Step 6
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink. Alcohol tends to make a person uninhibited to where they might do things they ordinarily wouldn’t do. Know your body and how much you can drink before you are to the point of being drunk and out of character.
-
Step 7
Set boundaries for yourself before stepping out your door to go out on the town. Stick with your boundaries and you can prevent the consequences of an unplanned one-night stand.
