A tri-merge report is one that combines credit reports from all three of the major credit bureaus. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion all compile their information independently, so obtaining a single credit report may not give you a complete picture of a tenant's credit history. If you are considering a potential tenant's creditworthiness, you may want to obtain a tri-merge report.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Obtain a signed release from your potential tenant. It is illegal to check someone else's credit report without permission. In order to make sure that you are covered legally, have prospective tenants sign a form stating that they are aware you will be checking their credit. You will need the tenant's name, birth date and social security number.

  2. Step 2

Select a company from which to purchase the report. AdvantageTenant.com, CertifiedCredit.com and TheCreditBureau.com are three sites that offer tri-merge credit reports.

  3. Step 3

Follow the instructions on the site that you have selected to order your prospective tenant's tri-merge credit report. You should have your report within seconds of submitting the request.
