How to Install Wings With 3M Tape
Wings or spoilers are fitted onto the trunk or rear of a car to add style and function. Wings are often bolted to the trunk by drilling holes into the metal, but this almost always allows water to leak into the trunk, causing mold and mildew to form. There is a better way to install wings that involves no drilling or cutting. Use strong 3M tape to hold your wing in place.
Things You'll Need

- Automotive masking tape
- 3M tape
- 3M adhesive spray

1
Clean entire area where the 3M tape and wing will be installed. Do this by using wax and grease remover and a microfiber towel. If there is heavy dirt or mud, wash the car prior to this step.
-
2
Place the wing on the truck lid for a dry fit. Place automotive masking tape around the edges of the wing and then remove the wing. The areas now inside the tape are where the 3M tape will be placed.

3
Spray the 3M adhesive spray on the area of the car that the wing will come in contact with. Also spray the parts of the wing that will be touching the trunk lid.
-
4
Apply the 3M adhesive tape to the sprayed areas. Start and stop the tape 1/4 inch from the edges so that the tape won't be visible once the wing is in place.

5
Place the wing on top of the tape. Elevate the wing slightly and peel back the red liner from the tape, a small area at a time. Press the wing onto the revealed tape while slowly peeling the red liner and exposing more tape. Apply pressure to the wing to make sure it adheres to the tape well.

Tips & Warnings
Have the wing painted before installing it on the car. Use bolts in addition to the tape to secure heavy or tall wings.
