Finding a professional recording studio can be a very difficult task for any band, artist, or musician. Some musicians looking to record feel like they have to go to big cities like New York, Los Angeles, or Nashville to even start to get a good recording. However, the price of these big name studios can be prohibitive especially for independent bands and artists. If you are an independent artist do not neglect the small studios in your home town or city.

Things You'll Need:

  • Band or music project
  • Recording Budget
  • Knowledge of the recording process
  1. Step 1

The first step to find local recording studios is to work up your recording budget sheet. Price is usually a deciding factor in selecting a music studio to record in, so it is best to know your limits up front and really focus your search on studios you may actually record in.

  2. Step 2

Next, start to keep your ears to the ground to find the reputation of local recording studios. Talk to other bands, check out the studios and engineers used on high quality local music releases, and keep your eyes peeled on music industry forums for classified ads and recording studio deals and specials in your area.

  3. Step 3

Once you have narrowed down you studio search list make a trip and visit every studio. If you have a friend's band recording ask them if you can sit in on the session for a while. Make sure you are comfortable with the space, the engineer, and the location. Recording can be hectic and sometimes working close to home on a small scale can yield surprising results.
