Design a Master Bedroom With Purple & Deep Green

It is a common misconception that dark colors make a room appear smaller and feel less comfortable. If done correctly, a master bedroom designed with purple and deep green can be extremely comfortable. These colors can create a relaxing atmosphere, allow you to sleep easier and add an organic feeling to your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the deep green, lighter complementary purple color and white or cream for baseboard and ceiling accents. If you are unsure if the shades complement each other, bring samples of the color into natural light and into the room. Colors can appear differently depending on the lighting conditions they are exposed to. What looks great under fluorescent store lighting may look disastrous in your master bedroom.

    • 2

Purchase enough deep green paint to cover the walls and enough white or cream to paint the baseboards and ceiling as accents. This will prevent the deep green from becoming overwhelming in the room.

    • 3

Select a carpet that is light cream, beige or light in color. Using a dark colored carpet will make the room feel smaller and less welcoming. Lighter wood-colored flooring will also have the same impact as light carpeting.

    • 4

Select a comforter containing a color close to the complementary purple selected in Step 1. The comforter can be solid, but a patterned comforter containing a similar deep green and white or cream on the walls will add interest to the interior design of the master bedroom.

    • 5

Select sheets that are cream or white in color for added contrast and interest. If you dislike white sheets, choose a shade of green or light purple.

    • 6

Select furniture that contrasts with the deep hue of the walls. The wood should be light or medium in color such as pearwood, oak or cherry. If the furniture you have does not match the new interior color scheme for the master bedroom, consider refinishing your current set, repurposing items or finding an inexpensive set on sale or at a local thrift store.

    • 7

Choose accessories containing white, cream, light purple, green, and/or have dark green accents. Silver is another excellent accent color to add for lamps, picture frames and candle holders.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a color-selection tool located in the store if you are unsure what shades of deep green and purple will look best together. It can make the process of color selection much easier.
