Kanekalon is a synthetic hair product made by the Japanese company Kaneka. It's commonly used for hair extensions and weaves, as well as wigs and doll hair. Kanekalon is flame-retardant and comes in a variety of styles, including braids, straight extensions and kinky extensions. It comes in more than 120 colors. Instructions

    • 1

      Wind the Kanekalon lock completely around a salon rod and secure it with a rod fastener. Use a large rod for loose curls and a thin rod for tight curls.

      Immerse the rod into hot water at a temperature between 158 to 176 degrees F for 15 seconds.

      Remove the rod from the hot water and gently blot it dry with a clean towel. Allow the Kanekalon to fully air dry.

    • 4

      Unlock the rod fastener and carefully unwind the curled Kanekalon from the rod. It's now ready to use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once the Kanekalon is curled in this manner, it should hold its curl through several shampoos.

  • Do not use a curling iron on Kanekalon. Most types can't withstand high heat.
