Wall-mount room speakers are installed on the wall of a room using a metal bracket that is usually attached to the wall with drywall screw anchors. In many wall-mount speaker systems, the speaker can be taken down from the bracket to be cleaned. In other cases, you can clean the speaker while it is mounted to the wall, using a cloth and ladder.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Position a ladder below the wall-mount speaker. A step ladder or extension ladder can be used, depending on how high the speaker is from the ground.

  2. Step 2

Detach the speaker wire or cord from the back of the speaker by opening the connector and removing the speaker wire (see your manual for details). Make sure the stereo is turned off prior to detaching the mount speaker from the wire.

  3. Step 3

Hold the wall mount speaker in one hand while you detach the speaker from the wall bracket. Most speaker mounts have a knob that you can turn to detach the speaker from the mounting bracket.

  4. Step 4

Place the wall-mount speaker on a table and clean it thoroughly with a cloth that's damp with water. Gently clean the dust from the sides of the speaker, careful not to get any dust into the face of the speaker.

  5. Step 5

Tilt the speaker so the grill is facing down at an angle of 45 degrees or more towards a piece of newspaper. Brush the speaker grill with a dry towel, cloth or a bristle brush, and let the dust fall onto the newspaper; this prevents dust from getting inside of the speaker's grill.

  6. Step 6

Reattach the wall-mount speaker to the bracket using the provided hardware.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not want to detach the wall-mount speaker from the bracket, carefully clean the speaker cover and face with a cloth while on a ladder. Be careful not to jar the speaker while cleaning, as you may damage the bracket.
