A wood-pellet stove can be used to heat a room without taking up much space and requiring minimal cleaning. The stove continuously feeds little wooden pellets to keep the fire lit and can burn for hours or days.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine where your wood-pellet stove will be set up. The stove needs to be near an outside wall for proper venting. Measure the space you plan to put the stove in before buying one. Knowing the measurements will enable you to buy the properly sized pellet stove.

  2. Step 2

Select an online or in-store seller. Several stores across the country such as American Energy Systems and Home Depot sell wood-pellet stoves.

  3. Step 3

Decide what features you want most in your wood-pellet stove to narrow your search. Some wood-pellet stoves have large hoppers where the pellets are stored before they enter the stove to be burned. This allows more time for the fire to warm your house. Decide whether you want glass doors on the front of the stove or a fan inside it to allow the heat to enter the room more quickly.

  4. Step 4

Look for discounts. Online stores will often offer free delivery with the purchase of a wood-pellet stove. They may also offer a discount of 10 percent just for ordering online.

  5. Step 5

Before buying from a local store make sure that they will offer an installation upon delivery. If purchasing a wood-pellet stove online, you will need to have an installer come out to your home. Home Depot, for example, will come install the stove, which can cost up to a couple of hundred dollars.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be flexible. If you find a wood pellet stove that is exactly what you want, but it costs a little more than you anticipated then you will need to consider purchasing something with less features or pay the extra money. Search for the best deals and take your time in finding them. Do not rush your purchase or you can end up with something you don't really want or pay too much.
