Business excellence is a goal for most organizations. It recognizes the importance of policy and process improvement as criteria for organizational success. There are numerous business excellence and Total Quality Management (TQM) programs used around the world. They strive to develop best practices while providing relevant benchmarking.

      Break down at least three business excellence models into common categories to see how they compare. The models should be used by many organizations as a common ground for organizational improvement.

      Research the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence model. As a primer, this framework is used by more than 70 national business excellence/quality awards around the world. The model breaks down excellence into leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, analysis and measurement, workforce focus, process management and results orientation.

      Study the EFQM Excellence Model. This model is used across Europe and consists of nine different categories. These are leadership, strategy, people, partnerships, processes, customer results, people results, society results and key performance results.

      Study the Singapore Quality Award Framework. The award is aimed at business excellence in Singapore. The award frameworks business excellence with seven categories: leadership, planning, information, people, processes, customers and results.

      Research the Canadian Framework for Business Excellence. This framework is used as a basis for the adjudication of the Canada Awards for Excellence. It consists of seven different categories: leadership, planning, customer focus, people focus, process management, supplier partner focus and business performance.
