How to Care Blue Cichlids Ram

Blue Ram Cichlids (Apistogramma Ramarezi) is a Cichlid family. The fish come from Colombia and Venezuela The shape is similar with most cichlids with oval shape body.

Blue ram has beautiful blue turquoise color and three black spots around their head. One black strip across their eyes vertically.

The blue ram is a peaceful fish; therefore, you can care with other peaceful fish such as loach, rasboras, tetras, plecos, angelfish, barb, etc. The blue ram will be aggressive, when they are breeding. You should remove the pair into another tank.

Things You'll Need:

  • 20 gallon aquarium
  • fish food
  • aerator, water filter and water heater
  • brush
  1. Step 1

    Provide at least you need a 20-gallon aquarium. If you want care more fish, you need larger tank.

  2. Step 2

    The Blue Ram needs pure freshwater and neutral ph water. They tolerate ph water range 5.5 to 7.0. Since this fish come from the tropical water, you should keep the water warm. You need water heater and set up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The water hardness must be soft.

  3. Step 3

    Make some hiding place from pipe PVC, bogwood, flat rock, etc for community aquarium.

  4. Step 4

    Install water filter, water heater an aerator into your tank.

  5. Step 5

    Clean the tank periodically. Make sure the aquarium clan from algae. You need to clean water filter too. Algae could invite the disease to your tank. Replace the water up to 20% once a week.

  6. Step 6

    Feed them continue. Blue Ram Cichlid is an omnivore fish. You can give any fish food to the blue such as commercial food like pellet, granule, flake, and the frozen is good for blue ram. Since the Blue Ram is an omnivore fish, you can give vegetable too. You can give zucchini and lettuce.

  • You should know that blue ram cichlid prefer live fish food and frozen fish food. You should notice that some live food bring diseases. Make sure you get live fish food from the trustable place or pet store. You can give live food like prawns or squid rings. Feed the Blue Ram three times. Do not feed the Blue Ram abundant because it could harm your fish.
