Become a fan of and follow your favorite brands and stores on all social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Brands and stores will often post exclusive coupons, promotions and free samples for their followers. Free samples almost always come with coupons enclosed.

Most brands and stores have an option on their websites where you can sign up to receive coupons emailed, printed or mailed to you -- and all of them are offered free of charge.

FabuLESS tip: If you don't want your day-to-day inbox flooded with coupons and newsletters, be sure to get a new email address dedicated solely to coupons and deals. You can sign up for a new email address from a variety of email providers like Gmail, Yahoo! and Hotmail to keep your regular email uncluttered.

In addition to the national brands and stores listed in the Resources section, be sure to sign up for the mailing list from all of your local grocery stores. Many grocery stores offer exclusive coupons, both store specific and from manufacturers, that can shave down your grocery bill in a major way. Some stores automatically add you to their mailing list if you have a "loyalty" or "shoppers" card. Other stores have a sign-up option on their website or in store. If you don't see an option on the website, be sure to contact them or ask at the store's customer-service desk how to sign up.

A list of major food companies and two stores, including direct links to where you can sign up for coupons, is posted in the Resources section below.

Flattery Will Get You Everywhere

If you enjoy a product, be sure to let the company know -- most companies have an option on their website to contact them. Spending less than 60 seconds to compose a note will almost always result in the company sending you coupons as a thank you. However, if you write specifically to request coupons, you might not get as many coupons as you will with a complimentary note.

A sample note might read like this:

Thank you so much for producing INSERT PRODUCT NAME HERE. My kids/I/my whole family/my dogs absolutely love the taste of INSERT PRODUCT NAME HERE, and I love that I can provide them with a healthy snack/tomato sauce/yogurt/FILL IN THE BLANK.

Your loyal customer,

INSERT YOUR NAME HERE

Complain Effectively

If you have a legitimate complaint about a product you've purchased, be sure to (nicely!) let the company know. Doing so will almost always result in both an apology and high value coupons. An effective complaint letter might read like this:

Dear INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE,

Usually I enjoy INSERT BRAND NAME HERE. Unfortunately, I found my current purchase not up to your usual high standards because THE SIZE OF THE PACKAGE HAS DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY/IT WAS TOO SALTY/IT TASTED STALE/ETC (you should also include where you bought it, the lot number, expiration date and any other details). I have eaten INSERT BRAND NAME HERE for years and have never had reason to complain. I'm certain that this in an isolated incident.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter; it is greatly appreciated. Should you need to contact me, please feel free to do so at (xxx) 555-5555 or via email: email@email.com

Sincerely,

Search for the Quick Coupon

As it takes a little while for coupons to start flooding your mailbox, you might want to use a searchable database to find printable coupons that you can use immediately.

Here are two searchable coupon databases:

www.livefabuLESS.com/database

www.couponmom.com/grocery-coupon-database-10

Simply type in the name of the item that you're looking to find a coupon for, and if one's available, you can print one immediately. Not entirely free, as there is a cost for paper and printer ink, but the value of the coupon should more than cover the cost of printing it.
