Colloidal silver is a liquid solution that contains suspended silver particles. There is a long history of silver being used for medical purposes, and today colloidal silver is sold over the counter as a dietary supplement for colon cleansing and immune health. The Food and Drug Administration, citing a lack of any substantial evidence that colloidal silver is capable of curing any disease, banned manufacturers of colloidal silver products from marketing these products under claims of curative properties in 1999. However, the sale of these products is still legal in the United States, and there remain proponents of colloidal silver's health benefits.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult your doctor prior to beginning a colloidal silver regimen. Your doctor may recommend against taking it because of the FDA's ruling on colloidal silver, but the choice is ultimately yours. A doctor consultation is particularly important because of the risk of argyria, an incurable condition caused by excessive colloidal silver intake that can permanently turn the skin blue. Your doctor should be able to advise you on the appropriate dosage limitations to avoid argyria, given your personal medical history. Your doctor may also suggest alternative treatments for your colon problems.

  2. Step 2

Purchase colloidal silver where herbal supplements and alternative medicines are sold. You can also purchase it online.

  3. Step 3

Read the dosage recommendations on your bottle of colloidal silver and compare them to the dosage recommendations discussed with your doctor. Favor the lower of the two doses.

  4. Step 4

Administer the colloidal silver orally by dropping it onto the tongue with an eye dropper. Typically, colloidal silver ships in bottles that contain a built-in eye dropper in the cap.

  5. Step 5

Monitor your colon health symptoms carefully as you continue your colloidal silver regimen, and advise your doctor of any changes. If symptoms improve, it is up to you whether or not to continue taking colloidal silver for the other health benefits it is believed to have. If symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, consider discussing other treatments with your physician.

Tips & Warnings
  • Discontinue your colloidal silver regimen immediately and consult a doctor if you observe skin discoloration, which may be a sign of argyria.
