Take some time to evaluate what your tool needs are based on what type of work you will be doing, and how frequently you will be doing it. Makita offers many different series of power tools, and the occasional weekend do-it-yourself homeowner has very different needs than the contractor that often depends on tools to perform every day, all day long, and under extreme conditions.

2
Read the on-line reviews for the Makita tool(s) that you are considering buying. The Internet gives you access to the experiences of both tool experts and buyers from all over the world. Often buyers find that these reviews either reinforce their desire to buy a particular tool, or make them reconsider. Either way, it is very valuable information to have before you buy. The consumer review web site buzzillions.com has users rank Makita power tools on a scale of 1-5 stars, and of the first 20 Makita models reviewed, nine received a perfect five stars, and none received less than a 4.7 rating.

Visit the large national home improvement store chains such as Lowe's and Home Depot. These stores have tremendous buying power with Makita and often have unbeatable deals. The sales staff in the tool department will also have seen hundreds of these power tools sold. They can tell you which are most popular and positively reviewed for your needs, and which have been repeatedly returned because of problems.

4
Once you have settled on a specific tool or tools, do a thorough job of comparing prices both on-line and at local Makita dealers. See the resources section for Makita dealers near you. Keep in mind that many times retailers will offer great tool package prices around holidays like Father's Day and Christmas. One Father's Day I was able to get a cordless drill and saw combo for about the same price that just one of the tools would usually cost.
