The Science of the Mind can be considered a philosophy of life. It carries some of the basic notions of the now very popular law of attraction. The basic principle is that by controlling our thoughts, we control our lives.

Things You'll Need:

  • In this case, all you really need is an open mind.
  • You might find it helpful to have the book "Science of Mind" by Ernest Holmes or another book or CD that teaches the law of attraction.
  • If you find yourself wishing to dig deeper, you might wish to enroll in a course through the United Church of Religious Science.

    You Are What You Think

  1. Step 1

Accept yourself as you are in this present moment. Even if you are homeless or seriously ill, know that you are perfect as you are right now. Find things to enjoy and be grateful for every day. This is an ongoing task.

  2. Step 2

Believe that the universe is all good. Our perceptions of the universe control our lives. If you believe the world is against you, it will be. If you believe that anything is possible, it will be. The answer to every problem, large or small, can only be truly found within your own mind.

  3. Step 3

Find the divine inside yourself. Science of Mind uses your connection to the divine for positive prayer. We can communicate with God because we are connected to all the creative forces in the universe.

  4. Step 4

Do daily meditation including affirmations. Set aside the space and time to be free from distractions. Dimming lights and lighting a candle can help set the mood. Be quiet and empty your mind. When you are ready to give your full focus to the positive, you should repeat positive thoughts. This can be as simple as saying "I am well." Holmes' "Science of Mind" has a chapter of daily meditations you can use.

  5. Step 5

Consider your faith. Ongoing spiritual development is best done in a supportive environment with people who share positive goals. Science of Mind is meant to complement religion. If you don't currently belong to a spiritual community, trust that the right one will find you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Notice what you say to others. When you say, "I'm sick" or "She makes me angry," you are speaking to the universe. Forgive yourself completely for any negative thoughts or feelings you may have and let them go. Don't get too caught up in theories to practice these principles in real life.
